[xmlsec] Base64 Nodes enclosed by hex 10 char?'

Hello Mailinglist,

I'm trying to read some Nodes that contain Base64 items eg:
<MyNode>AM/1QB</MyNode>

I get the content by xmlNodeGetContent(). Why is the content two chars longer than in notepad.exe. The base64 string is enclosed by two HEX 10 chars. I can cut them away, but is there a reason?
